Can my computer play back high definition DVDs?
March 122010
The simple answer? No. Not yet.
There are no commercially available computer systems available to play some of the sample HD DVDs out there. Once the hardware and software becomes more available, most higher rated computers should be able to play back HD DVDs, although the highest video/audio resolution movies (e.g. 1080p with high definition multi-channel audio) may require a faster computer and/or dedicated audio decoding hardware. You can try and playback some trailers marked (HD) on Youtube or some WMV-HD clips elsewhere. That will give you the best idea on whether you will want to buy one of the mnay HD DVD Players out there or if you will be able to play back HD DVDs on your computer.
