Maroon and Black?
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Feb. 13, 2008
If you have not heard, Coach Zorn announced that he was proud to be wearing the maroon and black of the Washington Redskins. Huh? Maroon and black? C'mon, coach. Are you serious? The Redskins aren't Roanoke College, they're the Burgandy and Gold and anyone who follows the NFL with any regularity knows this.
Zorn Deserves a Fair Shake
Patrick Hite, ACCNation.com, Feb. 10, 2008
I'm not saying Zorn is Gibbs. Or even Reid. Maybe he's better. Maybe he's not. Maybe he's somewhere in between. Whichever it ends up being, Zorn deserves a chance now that he has the job. I'm willing to give it to him.
Art Monk Finally Gets His Due
Patrick Hite, ACCNation.com, Feb. 5, 2008
This should be a week for all Redskins fans to celebrate, yet I can't get past the fact that, although Art Monk is now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he was passed over the first seven years he was eligible.
A Perfect Ending to an Almost Perfect Season
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Feb. 3, 2008
Well, I shouldn’t be surprised, but my wife … wait for it … was right. The New York Giants, did indeed win Super Bowl XLII. We were stressing this entire game and with each minute the Giants hung around, we were glued to the television. It got so intense at one point, my wife Donna, who generally does not get riled up during a game, actually let fly an expletive. I, having been known to be quite animated myself, was actually rather impressed.
With All Due Respect, You're Squandering It Coach Joe
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Sept. 12, 2005
Ashburn, VA - I knew it would happen, but after three quarters? I figured it would take about three or four games before Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs gave Patrick Ramsey the hook in favor of his guy, Mark Brunell. Instead, it took three quarters and a nasty clothesline tackle that left Ramsey shaken, but still able to play. Un-(expletive deleted)-believable.
The Truth about the Redskins' Season
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Sept. 9, 2005
Ashburn, VA - All the offseason speculation; all the talk; all the drama; all the heartache; and all the years of losing have brought the Redskin nation to the brink of yet another season teeming with hope and possibility. All the columnist and analysts have thrown in their two cents: John "Riggo" Riggins think this is probably an 8-8 team at best, but he could easily see another 6-10 season. Most seem to think they're destined for last place in the division. The jury appears to be in - Joe Gibbs is not the coach he was 20 years ago.
Ramsey, Redskins' New Offense Shows Potential
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 26, 2005
Washington, D.C. - The Washington Redskins finally showed signs of life Friday night as they pulled out a 17-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers at FedEx Field. Embattled fourth-year quarterback Patrick Ramsey (Tulane) picked up where he left off the first two preseason games; throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The fans, as if they needed another reason, booed Ramsey and even the Fox TV announcers were hinting that this may be the end of Ramsey's tenure as entrenched starter. But what happened next surprised almost everyone … except maybe for Ramsey.
With Regards to Mike Wise's Column About the Fans
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 25, 2005
I'm not sure Mr. Mike Wise thought his Aug. 20 column (Booing Won't Make It Better, Hopefully Time Will) through very thoroughly. He paints Redskins fans with a very broad brush, thus generalizing us all as fair-weather fans, or "pathetic lot," who will turn on a guy if he throws a lone incompletion in an otherwise flawless performance. Maybe we would, considering what we've had to put up with the last 12. To be completely honest, I think we've earned that luxury.
Steven "A Jerk" Smith Opens Mouth, Inserts Both Feet
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 3, 2005
How Steven A. Smith got his job, I have no idea. Is it because he’s so loud and obnoxious? Maybe it’s because of the outrageous things he says that gets people like me so riled up and write about how obnoxious he is. Regardless, the guy’s a whack job and his recent comments during an interview on the Dan Patrick show only verifies his status as a jackass.
An Open Letter to T.O.
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, July 22, 2005
Ashburn - As you may have heard, Philadelphia Eagles All Pro wide receiver Terrell Owens has said publicly that he's not playing another down for the Eagles until they renegotiate his contract. Let's be clear about something, he willingly signed his current contract this time last year after refusing a trade from the 49ers to the Ravens. So, it's not like someone put a gun to his head and made him sign the contract.
Media Praise: Brett Favre Deserves It and the NFL Needs It
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Dec. 14, 2004
Ashburn - SkinsGridiron.com member Cut_Ade_Jimoh recently posted a comment on the site's message board that basically said that Green Bay Packers' Brett Favre, among the elite quarterbacks, is "the most overrated." In his original post on Monday, Dec. 13, he wrote, "It seems Favre has for a long time now gotten more credit than he deserves for many things." Cut_Ade_Jimoh is a loyal poster on SG.com and I respect and often enjoy his thoughts and opinions, but in this case, I have to disagree.
What Happened to Dallas Week?
Lawrence Bates, SkinsGridiron.com, Sept. 23, 2004
Ashburn - As I was walking through the halls of my office building this week someone stopped me and asked, "Who do the Redskins play this week?"
The Best Fans in the NFL?
Lawrence Bates, SkinsGridiron.com, Sept. 9, 2004
Ashburn - When Joe Gibbs arrived at Redskins Park on Jan. 8, 2004, to officially announce his return as head coach of the Washington Redskins, he was greeted by a marching band playing "Hail to the Redskins." The band was accompanied by hundreds of Redskins fans singing along. It was a fanfare this nation's capitol hasn't seen in years.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of the Preseason
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Sept. 8, 2004
Ashburn - What a long, strange and exciting preseason it's been for the Redskins.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. St. Louis
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 29, 2004
St. Louis, Mo. - The Washington Redskins did a complete 180 Friday night. One week after their dominating, 17-0 win over the Miami Dolphins, the Skins were given a lesson in humility from the Greatest Show on Turf, the St. Louis Rams.
The QB Competition Is Over, Isn't it?
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 27, 2004
Ashburn - It's over, right? The quarterback competition for the Washington Redskins, it's been decided, hasn't it? Well, not exactly.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Dolphins
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 24, 2004
Miami, Fla. - Now that's more like it. The Washington Redskins looked like the Joe Gibbs' teams of old Saturday night as they used a power running game and a fierce defense to stuff the Miami Dolphins, 17-0, in front of more than 72,000. Every aspect of the Skins' game plan seemed to work, from the offensive line schemes to special teams play. There was a lot of good, very little bad, and the majority of the ugly sat squarely on the shoulders of the Dolphins.
In This Fan's Opinion...
Lawrence Bates, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 24, 2004
Ashburn - Forgive me if I don't get too excited about the 17-0 shellacking the Redskins put on the Miami Dolphins on Saturday night. While the Redskins certainly looked good, they were playing against a team in turmoil. The Dolphins already have had an entire season's worth of problems, and there are still two weeks left in the preseason.
Position Battles Heating Up
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 20, 2004
Ashburn - The first preseason game against the Broncos (a 20-17 win) was about butterflies and hitting someone other than your teammates. The second game (a 23-20 overtime loss) gave us a glimpse of the starters and a good look at some of the young talent trying to make this Joe Gibbs-led team. It also cost us our rock of a right tackle, Jon Jansen, who ruptured his Achilles tendon and was lost for the season. Extreme buzz kill.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Carolina
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 15, 2004
Ashburn - Not much changed between the Redskins first preseason game against the Denver Broncos and Saturday's disaster against the Carolina Panthers. The offense continued to struggle and in many ways, actually looked worse than the first game.
Jansen Injury Could Benefit Ramsey
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 10, 2004
Ashburn - The Washington Redskins quarterback controversy and competition may have settled itself Monday night when right offensive tackle Jon Jansen was lost for the season after rupturing his left Achilles tendon.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Denver
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 10, 2004
Canton, Ohio - OK, now what? Jon Jansen is gone for the season and there's no sugar-coating it, that's just how things are. The Skins lost one of their team captains, and most reliable players for the season last night when he ruptured an Achilles tendon in the first quarter. I'm sure I can speak for all Redskins fans, players and coaches when I say it felt like someone kicked us all in the stomach…then ruptured our Achilles tendon.
A Long Road Already for the Rookie
Gary Cope, SkinsGridiron.com, Aug. 6, 2004
Ashburn - Sean Taylor has fired three agents, hired the first one back, announced his displeasure with his first contract, refuses to speak to the media and hasn't cracked the first team offense. All that and he still hasn't played a down for the burgundy and gold.
