I have learned that proposed "Health Exchanges" are Websites dedicated to centralized health insurance selection "for the masses". http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1915891,00.html

It means that tens of thousands our neighbors, small Independent Insurance agents, will be kicked to the unemployment line "curb" (now also a website). Another "plus" for the economy, not to mention the "dirty detail" of the personal misery those tens of thousands of families will face. This is thanks to a Congress run amok by radical liberals with a twisted and irresponsible agenda.

So when Americans have questions about their insurance coverage or options, (ie: How many chemotherapy treatments will be included in my new "watered-down health plan?) they will just have to email the Webmaster.

Can’t you just see it? The Health Exchange responds quickly “by email” with… "Thank you for submitting your question. As you know we receive many thousands of questions every day, but your question is still “very important” to us. Please visit the FAQ section of our site, where you will find many examples of America’s most popular Sickness, Disease, and Health Treatment questions. Good luck and thank you again for supporting “American Government HealthCare.”

Insurance Supermarkets! Medical Supermarkets! Care Supermarkets! Unmanned HealthCare Kiosks! Sounds so comforting, caring, loving, and quite frankly…… shameful, unforgivable, and probably irreversible. Shame on us for letting this happen to America.

Extremely well put.
RIP America.

Maybe we should start over and find a smaller baby step that 2/3rds of this country believe in?

What about decoupling insurance from employment—give people the tax break that employers get?

What about limiting mandate to cheaper catastrophic care—-maybe even add some catastrophic coverage for chronic conditions, such that the catastrophic payout is paid over time for care of chronic conditions?

It seems the way the bill is developing is horribly distorted—-in a duplicitous effort to get single-payer through the backdoor, the American people are being forced to accept the worst of all worlds.

I am a Republican who abhors allowing the government to play any part in my families healthcare. I’d prefer to pay for my own healthcare as I have been doing. I’d be willing to allow general tax money to help the poor to have access to good healthcare so long as it doesn’t change the structure of my independent autonomy over my own healthcare. I abhor the healthcare in countries like the UK where government simply has been given too much power over the lives and the well-being of the majority of middle class families in the name of fairness. It is truly one of the most horrible things the "free" world has ever had to suffer with….

Health insurance is only evil to liberals when private insurers are selling the plans; if the Federal Government is selling health insurance then liberals will call it "good".

If you want to help improve many things all at once, then quit requiring employers to buy group policy plans, end Social Security as it currently exists, and encourage people to put money into "health care savings plans" that are like 401(k)s or FSA but the accrued balances roll over from year to year. This will help people pay for small office visits out of pocket and they can buy only catastrophic insurance. Also, allow interstate competition of health insurance providers and the costs will go down–in case anyone missed this, competition in a capitalist environment tends to drive prices down.

I am starting a new job March 1st. My benefits don’t kick in until May 1st. My current insurance from my empolyer I believe will end a month after my leaving (I think…must confirm) so I will be insurancless in April. I don’t want to ruin my financial security if I break my leg or get into a bad accident that month. What is my best bet? Will my current insurance extend coverage for a fee? Will my other one start early for a fee of would I be better off looking to an independent insurer? I don’t need pharmacy or regular dr visit help…but enough coverage to cover something major should it happen.

Thanks!

Find out if your current employer offers COBRA. Chances are they do. They will notify your carrier when you are terminated. They have 30 days to do this. The carrier then has 14 days to get the COBRA enrollment paperwork to you. You then have 60 days to decide if you want the coverage. The coverage will go retroactive back to your termination date. If something happens during that time frame and you need the coverage, you send in the acceptace along with the check for the premium payment. (This will be 100% of the premium-your employer will not be paying their part of it that they paid when you were their employee. It could be expensive!) If nothing happens during that time frame, decline the COBRA and you won’t have any out of pocket costs.

The Main Street Rescue Plan
Congress will be voting on a revised Wall Street Bailout Plan as early as October 1, 2008. If you believe that Congress should be focusing on Main Street first, then please click here to send an email to your elected officials telling them you don’t want the government spending billions of dollars on bad loans.
Phase One – Immediate Action by U.S. Congress

1. Securities and Exchange Commission
Mandate that the SEC:

Suspend its “mark-to-market” accounting regulations that are causing the write-down of bank assets to fire-sale prices, and thereby contracting the supply of available investment capital.
Tightly restrict short sales of financial stocks.
2. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
Mandate that the FDIC:

Declare a national emergency during which time the FDIC will back depositors and general creditors of banks that fail and resolve those collapses in a way that does not cost depositors, such as selling deposits and loans of the failed institution to another institution.
Reconstitute the FDIC’s “net worth certificate” (NWC) program that Congress created in the 1980s for the savings and loan crisis of that era. The NWC required no federal subsidy or cash outlay. Under the NWC, the FDIC bought subordinated debentures in the bank and issued FDIC notes to the bank, with the interest being the exact same on both instruments. Under this program, the FDIC assesses the financial condition of banks and shores up weak ones that can survive if given time to resolve their problems and merges/liquidates those too weak for the NWC program. Under the NWC program, the FDIC will provide strict supervision of participating banks, including the employment of key personnel and their compensation, until the crisis has passed. Again, no federal subsidies or outlays are required.
Declare a 120-day moratorium on payment of dividends by banks. Executives of banks that need capital often worry that failing to pay dividends is a sign of financial instability. A temporary ban across-the-board will end fears and give FDIC time to strengthen banks’ capital base.
Expand FDIC insurance coverage to other financial institutions, including hedge funds, placed under federal regulation.
3. Stabilize Owner-Occupied Homes
Declare a 120-day moratorium on mortgage foreclosures. This will (a) keep families in their homes while components of the broader plan are put in place and the real economy is revived; (b) better ensure that the property does not fall into disrepair; and (c) reduce the decline in housing values created by unoccupied, foreclosed homes.
Devise a post-moratorium program to do work out plans for owner-occupied homes, including federal cash subsidies for owners that can pay for their homes if given time to financially survive this crisis.
Amend federal law so that federal bankruptcy judges are able to modify the terms of mortgages of homeowners in bankruptcy and thus give them more time to work through their financial problems and keep their homes.
4. Share Rescue Profits with U.S. Taxpayers
Whenever the government makes a loan or an equity investment in a distressed financial institution, such as the AIG deal, the public gets a share of any future recovery profits.
Create a true “Social Security Lockbox” for the warrants and equity the federal government acquires as part of this financial rescue. The goal is not long-term federal ownership, but to assist these organizations in returning to a sound operation and then make a prudent sale of the public equity.
Restrict the investment of those funds to AAA-rated state and local infrastructure bonds, which provide safe, long-term investments that will stimulate the real economy, create new jobs, and fiscally strengthen the Social Security System.
5. Oversight
Create an independent agency/board to oversee and manage the non-FDIC/SEC portions of the Rescue Plan and report to Congress on a regular basis. The Board would consist of:
Secretary of Treasury (Chair).
Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board,
Chairman of the FDIC,
Chairman of the SEC,
Comptroller General of the United States,
One appointee by each of the Majority and Minority Leaders of the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
Create a new Joint Committee of Congress to oversee the plan and provide recommendations to Congress. The new Joint Committee would consist of representatives from all standing committees with partial jurisdiction for resolving this financial crisis. The goal is to involve all relevant committees in this rescue plan.
6. Create an Emergency Financial Crimes Office in the Department of Justice
The mission of this unit is to investigate any criminal acts that led to this crisis, hold the guilty accountable, and disgorge assets from individuals and institutions found guilty.
The head of the Office will be an experienced, non-political career prosecutor appointed by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senat
Sorry it took so long, but I think this is brilliant…What do you think?

I agree with him. The free market has obviously failed, and needs government regulation and good influence.

The debate lasted 90 mins, Old Joe lied on a average every 5 mins.

Joe Biden’s 14 Lies

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people’s health insurance coverage — they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska — she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it’s not a windfall profits tax.

9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation — he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won’t pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

Pathetic that Obama has a liar for VP, well it just goes to show you that birds of a feather come home to roost together doesn’t it?

It’s pretty well known that Biden says whatever is politically expedient – just like Obama – without respect to whether or not it is true.

I heard some of Biden’s comments on the radio this morning — followed by the sound bites of the actual remarks. The thought of having someone with this lack of ethics in the White House is embarrassing.

Liberals have tunnel vision.
